This is the summary line of an article in the NyTimes entitled In Kentucky’s Teeth, Toll of Poverty and Neglect:

About half the population in Kentucky does not have dental insurance, and 1 in 10 residents are missing all their teeth.

I grew up a 10 minute drive from the Ohio-Kentucky border (on the Ohio side). I’m glad NyTimes is running a piece on rural US poverty, which is so under-reported. But couldn’t they come up with something less darkly (unintentionally?) humorous (I feel badly for somewhat laughing when I read it) than that line?

Not exactly helping the image of toothless hillbillies in the boondocks is it?
