On Design

Random thought of the day:

The argument between NeoDarwinian scientists and ID is always framed as one of natural design versus intelligent design.

What no one ever asks–that I know of–is maybe this mental roadblock is in part caused by using the metaphor of design.

Design is the wrong metaphor I think.

What if we used expression—natural vs. intelligent expression.  Doesn’t seem like a contradiction then perhaps.

Design is a de-humanizing view.  Whether because humans are products of chance from natural design or chance by the arbitrary nature of a mythic god.  Either way humans are unimportant in the scheme.

I cede them their turf of un-love.  It’s not worth it.
