Zimbabwe on Edge

Watch this one very closely.  We could be witnessing the end of the Mugabe dictatorship. Or heading over the cliff to incredible bloodshed (and perhaps both).

  1. There’s a ‘runoff would be good for democracy’ meme floating that I’m starting to agree with. Vote is (seemingly) so close to 50% threshold, MDC may do well to clear a space for a runoff, if this could possibly be done with some semblance of transparency (big IF i know). A clear Mugabe loss could signal new era with (relatively) less turbulence.

  2. J,

The opposition is balking at the idea of a runoff (because they no doubt won). Also ZANU-PF is starting to break some of their offices in Harare.

So far though real major crackdowns (Tian. Square style) have thankfully not taken place.

    Peace. chris
