Slight Addendum on Obama’s Dignity Doctrine

In this earlier post, I might have been a little too harsh on the so-called Dignity Doctrine of Obama.

To the degree that policies are narrowly targeted and have shown in the past to be effective, humanitarian efforts can massively shift public opinion in favor of US (and of course more importantly save lives), especially in the context of the previous discussion in Muslim majority countries.  The most obvious examples being US efforts after the Pakistani earthquake and the Indonesian Tsunami.  If the Obama Doctrine deals in those, it could be quite effective.  If it goes out beyond that narrow scope to large idealistic goals, then it’s effectiveness would decrease and could easily do more harm than good.
