McCain camp responds to the TrooperGate report which states that the Governor did have the right to fire Walter Monegan but abused her authority not in the firing but in the use of her position to deal unethically with a family dispute (which the McCain Camp obviously doesn’t mention in their response) (my emphasis):
“Today’s report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan. The report also illustrates what we’ve known all along: this was a partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior. Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact. The Governor is looking forward to cooperating with the Personnel Board and continuing her conversation with the American people regarding the important issues facing the country.”
The investigation results were 12-0 and the board was made up of 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats. WTF partisan? That’s bipartisan if I’ve ever heard it. If it was partisan it was her own party. with more weight. And where did Obama come from? This investigation was started before Palin was ever picked for VP. Before Obama I’m sure even had heard her name or knew who she was. Yes, Democrats tend to support Obama. But this is clearly an in-house Alaskan thing. Pretty ham-fisted attempt to connect the two by McCain folks.
I have no idea whether this story takes off or not or even matters much. She’s a VP; she’s already sorta totally embarrassed herself and the economy is in meltdown mode. But whatever effect it does have, I can’t imagine it’s positive for McCain, whose good news is that he he talked down some wackos in his crowd. Yikes.
